We triggered a large, size 3 avalanche today from the Byrant lake col. The avalanche was triggered from flat terrain and released on a nearby steep slope 100 m away. The avalanche had a crown depth of between 1 m and 2 m, which is large. It was approximately 400 m wide and 400 m long. Notably, it connected across a convoluted, rocky slope, indicating the potential for good propagation. The weak layer was the facet/crust interface from early December. During our travels we also observed three natural avalanches size 2 to 3 that ran during the last storm on various aspects between 1200 and 1600 m.
Triggered from a thin spot on flat terrain.
