Good run up to Sherbrooke Lake. Took up track likely set by Marcus B towards Phantom couloir in the alpine. No signs of instabilities - but a few cm of fresh / windy soft that sat over a solar crust that was about 4cm thick - in turn overlying the facets from te cold spell. We easily punched trough this crust where it was present and it wasn’t stiff enough nor widespread enough to transfer any force. From Phantom we headed up to te summit via an established track that was baking in the sun to the obvious summit at 2450m. Snow wasn’t moist but was packing a punch when sun was out (stripping to base layers on the up). A number of tracks up there but still plenty of freshies to be had. Nice chunky cornices on the West aspect at the lake though. Minor stuffing observed from steep, Rocky and sun exposed aspects. Good snow on way down raining from amazing to good (where the crust was present). Bobsleigh run back to parking lot. -18’C at 9:30 when we started and -8’C by the time we finished 15:30. Calm winds ...
