Pine Pass

Shawn Nydegger, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Skied out in the pass today. About 10-15cm of new snow down low and around 20cm just below treeline. -18°. Strong wind transporting a lot of snow in open areas BT. Lots of shooting cracks on fresh wind slabs. Remote triggered a small wind slab avalanche about size 1 (10-15cm crown, 100m wide, 75m run.) Occurred on an East aspect BT in a wide open break in the trees, around 30° at crown. Was triggered from about 30m away while stepping out of the trees. Pulled me down the slope a little and buried my legs. The slide bellied out on to a lower angle slope. Ran on last weekend's rain/ice crust.
