Busy day at the Gorge despite the chilly temps. No evidence of wind effect where we topped out and pulled out the shovels at 1950m. We dug down 70cm to the early Dec crust which was 4cm thick, well bonded above and below and gave no results in snowpack tests. We also found the Dec 21 surface hoar layer 25 cm deep but it did not show propagation in snowpack tests. Otherwise, the cold, dry unconsolidated upper snowpack provided good skiing.
