Cheops North

benjamin.yeager, Sunday 18th April, 2021 9:35PM

Quick lap on Cheops to see how North facing terrain is holding up to the warm temps. There was a moderate refreeze overnight. The crust was breaking down as early as 0900 on solar aspects. Plenty of evidence of loose wet and wet slab avalanches mostly size 1-2 including the attached photo that took out most of the skin track on the west face of Cheops. Ski down north aspect was a mix of spring feeling snow and some spots of icy crust. Ski out was very sticky and wet by noon! If you’re heading out get an early start and keep an eye on what’s baking in the sun above you, especially if it doesn’t already have avalanche debris in it. Still plenty of good skiing to be had It was a sunny morning and a storm rolled on around 1100 and there was mixed precipitation and moderate NW winds.
