White Pass Conditions

The widespread wind effect has created variable snow coverages with lots of thick/thin transitions, especially in areas like Log Cabin, which have complex loading patterns. Widespread hard slabs can be found in features lee to outflow winds. Air temperatures were inverted today but we found surface faceting in the alpine from the cold temperatures earlier in the week. Overall coverage is better than normal for this time of year, but many early-season habits still exist. Some small avalanches occurred yesterday in steep alpine terrain, but no new avalanches were observed today.
