The Accumulation Station

northrockiesfieldteam, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:33PM

They say with great powder comes great responsibility. There was a whopping 90cm of snow that has formed a significant storm slab over last week’s crust. With hazard high and visibility low, we stuck to simple terrain and smaller slopes while waiting for the new snow to bond. The wind was at work in open areas at tree line and in the alpine forming denser slabs and piling snow into lee features. In these areas we saw shooting cracks from our sleds and decided to return to more sheltered terrain where the snow was softer and deeper. The riding in the trees and meadows was amazing and we burned through our fuel tanks pretty fast. We didn’t see any avalanches toady, but lets be honest, between the heavy snowfall and endless face shots we couldn’t see much. It was an epic day in the Torpy!
