Today we went to the Crowsnest Pass to get into the alpine and check out the effects the warm temperatures and sun were having. There were several wet loose avalanches out of steep terrain. A few of these avalanches initiated slabs up to size 2 on solar-facing slopes. We avoided overhead hazards like cornices and steep, solar slopes and made some nice turns down a shaded low angle slope. Hard to be unhappy with a day like that!
Snow conditions were: Wind affected. Weather conditions were: Sunny, Warm. We rode: Mellow slopes. We avoided: Steep slopes, Sunny slopes. Riding quality was good.
Avalache Conditions: Slab avalanches today or yesterday. Rapid temperature rise to near zero degrees or wet surface snow.
The wind was mostly calm with the odd moderate gust from the south, not moving any snow around.
