Reactivity

Northwest Coastal

We saw no signs of avalanches in the area, but the snow on open slopes was very reactive. There was a significant amount of wind loading happening. We preformed a compression test and experienced reactivity on the first easy tap. We also preformed a rutschblock test, and the entire recent storm slap gave way immediately. We decided to stay away from any open slopes, and had a wonderful day skiing powder in mellow trees.

Snow conditions were: Powder. Weather conditions were: Windy. We rode: Dense trees, Mellow slopes. We avoided: Alpine slopes, Convex slopes, Steep slopes. Riding quality was amazing.

Avalache Conditions: 30cm + of new snow, or significant drifitng, or rain in the last 48 hours. Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.
