Torpy Turns

Today we found the best riding by avoiding the avalanche problem. There was deep powder in sheltered treeline terrain. In more wind exposed, south to east facing features, we found evidence of hard old windslabs. The alpine was scoured, hard snow with huge sastrugi in some places. Interestingly, we're finding the same buried surface hoar that caught a skier in the area last weeked below treeline as high as 1600m. Like in other areas, there was small surface hoar also growing on top of the old snow. The day was cloudy and cold, but it warmed up to -14C and a few flurries started up late in the day.
