Riordan lap

john.wettstone, Thursday 26th December, 2024 1:00PM
Quick lap up Riordan from the Apex resort uptrack. Skied the northeast face to the out track leading back to the resort parking lot. All south and western faces were wind affected and very shallow snow in most spots. <20cm at times. Possibly better in dense trees. Decided NE face, choosing a gully to get down cliff faces. Snow quality was good, however only 30-50cm in all spots. Sharks everywhere. No act concerns, despite lack of column test. We skied low angle terrain almost exclusively. Snow was powder like with good base and no obvious crusts or facets. Good turns were found in spots. Could use a storm or two. Of note. Ski patrol reported Apex mountain proper had 20cm of depth at summit and southern face. Other riders reported ~120cm of powder in couliors and wind protected areas. Proceed with caution.
