<p>25 cm of new snow. HS is 165cm. Foot penetration was 65cm. Dug a pit at 1434 meters in elevation on a 30 degree SW treed slope. -15 degrees celsius. Under the 25 cm of new snow there is a thin layer of surface hoar, 2mm in size. Then rounds down to 40cm and then a melt freeze crust with rounds underneath to 53cm. Below this there are a number of different layers that are pencil hard that show no reaction down to 118cm, which has an ice crust with facets down to surface.
Lots of fresh snow with more coming that is available for wind transfer. Watch for wind loaded slopes, and convex slopes as there is a higher chance of large slab avalanches due to the fresh snow on top of the surface hoar layer that was down at 25cm.
Overcast day with fresh snow falling.
