auto: Quick Report

Fantastic day in Bijoux! The Pine Pass got hit hard by this latest storm, with a ton of new snow on the existing base. Below tree line snow was 1.5-2 m deep, with 40-60 cm fresh pow on the existential snowpack. At Treeline it was a lot more variable, with exposed areas scoured to the ground, but some significant wind transport in lee slopes and trees. Some cornice development but nothing major. Snow at treeline averaged 160 cm, with 20-30 cm pow on existing crust. Where we rode was quite stable with no signs of slabs or triggering, but we stayed out of the alpine, off big slopes and off heavily wind loaded slopes. Major hazards we encountered were stumps and trees (it is still somewhat shallow) and an unconsolidated snowpack with not much base. All in all, an absolutely fantastic day of early season riding!
