Bonney Traverse

Had a big day out on the Bonney Traverse.
Travel was fast across a variety of surfaces and ski pen was rarely more than 5cm. The climb up Swanzy was made difficult due to thin dust on a supportive crust - ski crampons handy. Plenty of evidence of old small slides on S’ly slopes and a fair amount of cornice debris dotted around.
Riding quality was terrible down the Bonney neve - thick breakable crust that made the crevasse navigation difficult. Soft corn snow on S’ly slopes at below 2200m. The best riding was found in the N’ly bowl descending into Flat Creek, where we found soft powder.
The exit via Flat creek was heinous and involved multiple transitions and wet feet crossing the creek in places. We also saw a set of huge fresh grizzly tracks plus cubs heading down the drainage.
