We went to Cain and back again

AvCan Vancouver Island, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:33PM

We went back to Mount Cain today to see what had happened through the week to our last batch of new snow. We found the snow to be well redistributed by the wind, but no wind slab characteristics were still present. There had been a natural avalanche cycle of loose wets up to size 1 on solar aspects, these slides appear to have stalled out quickly in the middle of the avalanche paths. Thinking about the storm that will be coming in tomorrow there is a variable surface for the snow to fall on from up to 10mm surface hoar BTL to wind scoured/wind loaded and some glazed surface in the TL and Alpine. It was a beautiful sunny morning with light to moderate winds out of the south, then the clouds started to move in.
