Windy Fraser chute

Yukon Field Team, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Strong southwest wind, with -5 air temp. We were mostly confined to the trees because of the wind but managed our way up on the ribs between Fraser chutes. New snow was forming windslab on east and north aspects as well as on any sharp breaks in terrain. South and west aspects where stiffening with the wind but were not propagating away from our skis the way small pockets were on the east. We could feel with our poles a suncrust on south aspects that was a bit patchy. A quick dig had very hard sudden results on a column test down 80cm from the surface, on old facets. Skiing low down was boot top and fast!
