Frost bite @ Smokers bowl

Today we observed the following:
• There was a temperature inversion.
1210-1400m {-24*C}, 1720m {-19*C} @ 10:00am.
• Ridge top temps (2220m) were -24.4*C @ 13:00 w/ reluctant ~25-40km winds.
• Between 1850-2220m most aspects have been wind touched. Now the surface consists of a wide spread Velcro-like wind skin {1-7cm} of DF’s that make skiing variable and unpredictable; however, sheltered areas, at lower elevation are well preserved and the top 10-15cm have experienced notable radiation recrystallization making for excellent skiing.
• Still quite low coverage (HS 15-20cm) at the top of the Lee side of the col, sporty rock skiing for the first 10m of the pitch. One member of the group received a dime sized core shot.
• HS in sheltered areas is around 120-130cm.
• Included a photo of the Fata Morgana we observed yesterday! Very cool.
