Sunny Wolverine

Jonathan Eagles, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Rode into the back of wolverine into the alpine. We did not notice any avalanches anywhere. Hard layer of snow about 6 inches down. Lots of hard wind blown areas too. Dug a pit at 1560m, in the trees on a north facing 20 degree slope. Visible layers at 55cm and 70cm. Snow was soft on top and got firmer as it got deeper. 30/30 column test showed a reaction 40cm down moderate 20 and 55cm down on hard 24. No reaction on the rest. The layer 40cm down was not visible to me but seemed reactive as my first attempt at a column broke here as I was pulling the cut snow beside it away. Had to move over and cut out a second column. The 70cm layer did not react.
