Dug a pit around 1250m on a 27 deg East facing slope near treeline. Total depth was 70 cm. From ground to 36 cm up the snow pack was composed of big sugary facets. There was an observable crust at 36 cm and another at 48 cm up from ground with more facets in between these two crusts. Snow from 48 cm up was fairly consolidated to powdery at surface. Surface wind effect was minimal. Column compression test failed (planar) on uppermost crust (48 cm up from bottom) at first elbow tap. We avoided steeper rollovers on the way down. Great few turns higher up, and some conifer and willow dodging lower down. Beware of just covered sharks as well as conifers and willows…sneaky tip catchers. Calm day out there and steady around -10c. Beauty day to get out and pfaff around the slopes with pals, it had been a long time.
