We observed wide spread wind affect in the Alpine on steeper terrain this wind slab was about 10 cms thick but got larger as we ascended. We heard a load wumph and felt some significant settling which confirmed our decision to turn aroun as safely as possible and not go to the summit. Significant warming and solar on a snow pack which is transitioning from winter to spring made today a particularly challenging day to manage considering the moderate rating.

Snow conditions were: Crusty, Wind affected. Weather conditions were: Cold, Warm. We rode: Alpine slopes, Dense trees. Riding quality was ok.

Avalache Conditions: Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.
