Feeling Forever Young

Glacier

A beautiful day on the Illecillewaet Glacier, with 2 groups dropping into Forever Young, and another one continuing onto Youngs Peak and 7 Steps of Paradise. Variable wind-effect around the glacier toe, with surface WSL 2cm thick on average; 1x shooting crack observed whilst ascending a 30° slope. Probed 180cm on average on the glacier, ranging between 135-235cm. Decent bridging on crevasses - bigger ones wide open and obvious. SH sz 2-4 on the glacier, likely to get swept away by the increasing wind, along with a thin MFsc 5cm down on S-W aspects. The best turns were found below the couloir, as Forever Young had seen enough traffic to leave behind only the old WSL for us to turn on, rather than any of the powder found in the TL. Intense blowing snow around Mt Sir Douglas, but otherwise L, SW, gusting moderate in the afternoon. Scattered skies and ALP temp around -10°C.
