Puddle Trouble

northrockiesfieldteam, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

First day in the field for our team, getting some baseline observations of the snowpack. Overall it looks like we are set up for a great season so far. We found about 140cm of total snow at treeline (1800m) which made for some deep powder riding. When we dug down to investigate we found a couple layers of concern - one down about 25cm and one down 80cm that were reacting in our tests. Both these layers should heal up and bond over the next few days. A thick crust near the base of the snowpack seems to be bonded well. We rode slopes that were lower angle (less than 30 degrees) to play it safe. Access up to Renshaw is not groomed yet and is a bit of an adventure right now, lots of deactivations with creeks flowing through them to get over.
