Bonney Moraines

We went for a ski on the Bonney Moraines. The valley bottom offered decent travel conditions with most of the brook filled in. The Elephant Trunk was in good conditions and frozen over. We did punch through an ice bridge over the creek so watch out! The uptracks through the Bonney Trees was laid through dust on crust, slowing our progress considerably.
We noticed some 4F- wind slabs about 20-40cm thick, lying over the 20cm K-hard crust. A variable 20-60cm of snow was found on top of the crust depending on aspect and winds. We found wind slabs on most aspects of the moraines at TL and above. Compression tests at 2000m revealed no conclusive results as the slab did not have enough cohesion to have it's fracture propagate through the snowpack. HS of 300+cm at 2000m.
One of the rider did trigger a Sz1 wind slab on a SW-W aspect at 2100m from a safe spot. The crust was felt in our knees below 1600-1700m, making skiing a little more difficult.
