Zymacord

ngottlieb, Saturday 28th December, 2024 10:00AM
North wind at ridgetop on the Dome in the morning and late afternoon transporting snow and seemingly loading south slopes. We skied north terrain in Zymacord and found great skiing and little evidence of avalanche activity. One natural size 1 in the most recent storm snow (~10cms) in Zymacord 1. Nothing visible in No Name Bowl. We dug hand pits in a few places in Zymacord Trees and found deep (1m at the shallowest, 2m in places) snow above the crust and a right-side-up snowpack with heavy, still wet snow at the bottom of the stack. HS much deeper than expected generally. The terrain there is full of features that collect wind loading but probing in a variety of areas yielded depths ranging from 250cm to over 320cm in the 1100m-1300m range. We skied steep and at times unsupported rolls in the trees with no results. We skied as low as 850m and found slightly heavier snow, but still dry on the surface and skiing well. The snowpack was much deeper there than at 850m at Shames.
