Feather Peak

Beautiful day touring up high on Feather peak. Snow quality in the alpine was great. There is a widespread crust up to 10 cm thick even in the alpine likely as a result of rain to mountain top last sunday. The crust is generally supportive. The crust was covered by 15-20 cm new snow in the alpine that hasn't been affected by the wind (facetting on the surface). It may however become a problem when a slab will form on top of it. Snow depths remain thin near the road, only about 30 to 40 cm. But the snow is a solid crust which allows decent travel but still sporty with lots of obstacles. Snow depth increases to 90 cm at 1300 m and 140 cm at 1600 m. Thin down low but pretty good start up high.
