Quick burn up Sugarbowl to take a look at the snowpack and help support MIN observations. Firm crust of variable thickness up until 1200m, where the surface conditions quickly transitioned to new snow, up to 15-20 cm depth by 1600m. Pit at 1510 m on N aspect gave moderate results down 15 and 20cm. Hard results down 48. Overall, at this location, we experienced a stable snowpack and observed no natural failures.
A tired pooch turned us around at about 1600m, with some lovely turns until we got back to the typical Sugarbowl survival-skiing crust. Surprisingly good skiing found lower than expected on this trip!
Further observations in the snowpack section.
