The alpine and upper treeline zones were heavily wind affected making for some less than ideal skiing, but lower down in the trees the snow was still nice powder. South facing slopes have a 2cm thick sun crust buried by about 10cm of new snow from the last couple of days. We dug down and found a couple of buried surface hoar layers - down 60 and 90cm. They wernt very reactive in our CT and ECT tests but we still chose of avoid very steep slopes in the trees knowing those layers were there. We saw a few small loose dry avalanches and a couple of old windslab releases that looked to have occured within the last 2-3 days, but no other signs of instability.
