<p>Today we went sled skiing in the Sterling Creek drainage, north of Terrace. We had poor visibility with a trace of light snow throughout the day. We saw no new avalanches but we didn't really see much at all. We found up to 10 cm of new snow in sheltered areas, but the north aspects had up to 30 cm from recent wind loading.
We dug at tree line on an east aspect at 1300 m where we found two weak layers that are identified in the avalanche bulletin. There was a layer of surface hoar (Jan 9) down 30 cm that failed easily on compression tests (CTE 5 SC down 30 cm on 5mm SH). Also the Dec 23 layer failed on hard taps (CTH 26 RP down 65 cm on 2 mm FC).
The freezing level was around 1000 m with good skiing above.
