Boom Lake

Went for a walk to look at KG couloir and the surrounding fans. Snowing lightly/moderately all day. Travel was rugged on the ascent, with varying snow types encountered. -1c as we left the parking lot led to heavy snow with 20cm ski penetration. As we moved towards the base of the fan we had a number of large settlements, with cracks propagating 20 metres out. Added to that, we witnessed 2 loose dry slides coming from the rock wall above, and significant debris in each of the fans (sz 1/1.5). This looked recent, but hard to tell as we didn’t venture close enough to check. One party were in the couloir itself but the combination of the aforementioned warning signs and the likely poor skiing led us to have tea/snacks in the trees and keep our skins on for the whole day.
