Goat range, Kananaskis

Light W winds generating surface windslab on lee aspects above tree line, very thin to 1 cm 1F. 15 to 30 cm F snow, temperature around -10. Came up the large bowl leading to a col at 2406 m elevation, south of the summit, and then along the south ridge. Good snow quality. Complex avalanche terrain.

Cornice failure on E aspect produced a size 2.5, entraining deeper layers in the track, running 600 m distance. Also observed several natural size 1 on NE aspects. Ski cutting produced sizes 1 to 1.5, 15/20 cm windslabs, 10 m wide, running up to 100m, reactive but fairly sluggish regarding the rather steep terrain.
