Recent snow was nowhere to be found on the upper east face of Whymper. I sidestepped down 15 m or so on a 10 cm thick melt-freeze crust before bailing upward and skiing the standard north bowl route instead (which was pretty good low density styrofoam). A refrigerator-size cornice came down the most common descent line of the bottom pitch below the north bowl, likely Monday PM or yesterday, and nothing slid.
