A nice day to go and do some avalanche awareness and get some decent turns. Conservative terrain choices in the new snow; we chose a VERY conservative skin track, and stepped out into more open terrain once we had more information.
Weather was a mix of sun and cloud, with cold temps (-19) first thing warming to -10 or so. Light snow through the day, accumulation less than 4cm in 4hrs. Winds remained light and variable.
For the snowpack, at Treeline and in the transition to alpine terrain 20cms of loose, low density (fist) snow overlies a firmer layer (4 finger). No slab properties observed in the upper layer. Looking higher into ALP there were no visual indicators of wind transport. HS at TL 240cm.
Ski quality good - while the snow is neither blower nor exceptionally deep, it skied well, and the denser layer under the storm snow gave a bottomless feeling.
