Went up Hall via cook creek fsr. Once out of the trees heard numerous whumpfs and saw shooting cracks up to 20m on NW aspect wind loaded slopes. Dug a pit and found the fresh snow not very slabby. Got the ice crust the fresh is sitting on top of to fail on the ‘ball bearings’ bellow it, leading us to conclude that the whumpfs we heard are probably the crust settling, and less so the wind slab. Turned around at around 1350m when greeted with large steep avi slope and whumpfs every second step.
Lovely cold powder on top of the crust though, and when skiing the mellow slopes in the cut block it almost felt like the rockies.
