<p>AST 2 course obs on tour through Miller Ck to ridge above Crater Lake
- Hoar frost growth up to 10mm below treeline, taper to nil at treeline proper.
- various wind affected surfaces in Alpine with hard slabs in lee
- hasty snow pit observation at treeline south aspect, sheltered location showed snowpack depth avg 150cm. Dec 6 crust and facet layer found down 100cm, and this gave us a propagating shear with 26 hits with an Extended Column Test, failing on the facets(sugar) above the crust.
- Saw 2 cornice triggered avalanches, size 2, in steep and extreme terrain in both Miller Ck and Crater Lake avalanche starting zones , likely from the wind event of Tuesday.</p>
