Hospital Sub Line

mlauriault, Sunday 28th March, 2021 5:35PM

Went out for a a scope and a quick run to see what the conditions were like. Went up the shoulder in the trees and punched a track to the entry of the gully. We expected plenty of avalanche activity but no signs of instability on the way up or during travel. The storm layer was really deep with ski pen. around 40cm while punching. Many attemps to trigger something by jumping on suspicious slope features with no results. No whumps and one tiny crack observed. High winds and really snowy on top of the shoulder in the open at around 1900m. We decided to go down a short sheltered gully through the skier’s right side entry, a medium-steep slope with a few pillows. I triggered a size 2.5 (see avalanche specs) on my 3rd turn and was able to stay above the slide. It went all the way down to the creek taking a few small trees down on its way. On the way out we noticed that Frequent Flyer and Grizzly both had slid all the way to the bottom.
