First Day at Hankin
Northwest Inland
AvCan Northwest , Tuesday 17th December, 2024 4:15PM
Today we skied at Hankin. Travel up to the cabin is good with the regular skin track in place. We dug a snow profile just above the cabin at 1450m and found 20-25cm of low-density snow sitting on top of a melt-freeze crust from the rain event earlier this month. The snowpack beneath this has multiple crusts that bond well and were unreactive in testing. The new snow has slightly improved ski quality but you can still fell the crust. We decided not to go into the alpine due to poor looking travel conditions and marginal looking ski conditions.
