McGill

Mayor of Angus, Monday 28th November, 2022 9:30AM

SNOW CONDITIONS: Sunday morning 4 of us broke trail up to the top of McGill shoulder. Coverage on the uptrack is still very low up to 1500m with under 30cms at the start, the new snow was wet and heavy. Getting through the deadfall was worse than usual. Above that the coverage was similar to Connaught the day before, we didn’t probe but easily over 100cms. We skied the left gun barrel, ski conditions were amazing. The ski down to the summer trail was more difficult than usual with some bush whacking alder but better than anticipated based on the up track. AVY OBSERVATIONS: Lots of whumpfing while breaking trail from 1500m to 2050m. Large flat areas presumably collapsing the weak layer with very faint cracking. Stability seemed good, steep rolls would whumpf but not move. We triggered a size one in the steep section at the end of the gunbarrel after the 4th skier went through. We did an impromptu pit on west aspect at 2050m and had failures on CT12 on Sunday nights storm ~30cms down and CT15 on the weak layer ~40cms down.
