Quick Observation

Quick tour from the Sutton pass sign, up the logging road and on to the ridge. Spent the night at the top of the cut block. Saturday called for 20 cm of snow but came in as rain at elevations below 1100m. The storm rolled in overnight, came with high W/NW winds (65km/h +) and heavy rain fall (significant snow melt overnight). The rain and wind continued throughout the day but subsided a bit. Skinning up, there was about 10cm ski penetration and 60cm boot penetration (1000m). Once in the treeline, there was good snow coverage, no need to take skins on/off. No natural avalanches observed and we didn't notice any whumpfs/shooting cracks throughout the day. The ski down was maximum corn status. Snow was heavily rain affected, even at elevations above 1000m. All in all, made for an incredibly wet day but fun with friends.

Weather

Extreme winds at night from the W/NW. Came with heavy rain starting around 9pm on the 25th and continuing to the drive out at 3pm on the 26th.
