Quick Observation
We went to York Creek today to check out the wind effect and shallow snowpack and were not disappointed! There was only 60 cm of snow at 1900 m with stumps and rocks everywhere. After bumping our way up on sleds we switched to skis and gained the ridge. The wind had heavily affected all aspects with small, stubborn slabs in lee features. Mostly 10 cm thick where we were. We took an air temp at 2000 m and it was +3.5°! But the light wind was keeping the snow cool so nothing was melting. No new natural or human-triggered avalanches seen The melt-freeze crust was buried 20 cm deep and had some faceted, sugary snow below it.
