On Friday the Climb High youth group skied at Hankin and dug a large pit just above the warming hut. We found numerous layers with sudden planar fractures on storm snow and decomposing crystals. 3 easy CT failures in the top 35 cm alone. Depth hoar and a thicker facet layer at ground. Height of snow, thickness of these layers, and ski/foot pen varied widely over just a few metres distance. In less wind affected areas the surface slab was completely absent. No naturals observed, and nothing propagated on the slopes we skied.
