Nice visit at Log cabin. Our main objective was to examine the snow while remaining very conservative. We went for the N aspect and reached 1250m. At first glance, the fresh snow was supporting us well for most of the way. We did not notice much of wind effect either in the alpine. However, a few shear tests in 25x25cm holes dug with a pole revealed a snowpack with many different layers and instability. There was some whumfing where we transitioned. Caution is definitely recommended in the alpine. Snow below tree line was soft and very nice to ride.
Warm temperatures and solar raditation (even on an overcast day) have started affecting some cornices. We witnessed a natural size 1 Lose Dry avalanche on an East aspect at Fraser chute on 2023-02-11, most likely due to a cornice failure.
ECT results were affected by 2 remote-triggered whumpf before we could complete them. One whumpf was witnessed on the layer from the rain event. There were multiple failures (not propagating). The last failure propagated 3/4 of the way at ECT-27.
