Climbed to treeline beside the Emerald Lake slide path and skied the path down to where it narrows, where we crossed the bench and descended through widely spaced small trees. Ski quality was great in most places, with patches of crust and debris under the storm snow. Heard one isolated whumpf on the ascent, but nothing further.
Snowfall lessened over the day, and temperatures warmed slightly, staying steady from -4.5 to -5 C with 400m of elevation gain. Sky stayed relatively cloudy, with sun peeking through in the early afternoon for a short time.
Dug a test pit at our high point for the day, with three results: CTE5 down 30cm on a crust, CTM17 down 50cm on the Dec 15 weak layer, and CTH30 down 75cm on an interface between two layers of facets. Due to time, no further tests were performed.
