Quick Observation

Dug a pit at lake near parking lot for fun, facing south east. There is a crusty layer 20cm deep, 5 cm thick with facets underneath. Probably from the 2-3 warm days followed by cold spell some weeks back, might not be as bad higher up and on less sun exposed snow. Didn't do a proper test but using shovel shear test it seemed to be well on itsway to bonding. There is also persistent weak layer at 70 cm that shears very smooth. can't comment on propagation because just did a couple of shovel tests. No cracks or whoomphing or recent avalanche signs seem on the way to Cleveland glacier.
