Quick Observation

Did the Cleveland-Feather loop on Saturday April 22nd. Mild overnight temperature at the p-lot at 9 a.m (no new melt freeze & moderate N-winds kept the snow cool for most of the morning. We did one lap down Cleveland NE (do not follow my friend's tracks as they lead directly to the rock band - see picture). 5cm ski pen in dry snow. Went up to Cleveland's SE summit through the bootpack gully. Crusty/slippery on the traverse. Snow was relatively good and consistent throughout the decent on the NW glacier. No new signs of wet point release off the SW facing slopes and moraine to access the Feather drainage link-up. Went up to Feather peak, snow on S/W and flats was getting moist and heavy. Skied from the SW summit down the N face. 15 m of hard crust on the drop in then good skiing to the skin track on a supportive snowpack. Snow was heating up quicky in the flats before the knotch but it was still early enough to make for good & fast corn skiing bearing skiers' right to avoid the sled tracks. There was a group of about 20 people from AK on snowshoe going into the area for a 20 day mountainering course. Great Spring tour under favorable conditions. Forecast is for higher overnight T. Conditions could change quickly. Be safe!
