Today in the Mt west riding area we had a beautiful blue bird day with no wind and mild temps. Valley temps were warmer at the truck and cooled off as we made our way to tree line. The snow was nice and soft in the trees but any exposed areas where heavily wind affected. We dug our pit on a North East aspect with a incline of 25 degrees around 1550m. Snow pack is pretty consolidated in this area. Our pit had a few wind slab layers that were reactive in the Easy range of our column test. We did a extended column test but could not get any of the layers to propagate all the way across, collapsed halfway at most and was broken and resistant when pulled on. From our pit we noticed a old crown of a slide underneath a cornice on a east facing slope. Did a tour of the area and made it up on ridge to take a look at the area and no other signs of avalanches were observed. The area has seen lots of wind in the past few days.
