Very well preserved surface hoar layer buried about 20 cm. Crystal size 20 to 25mm. Literally fell out of the snow pack when doing quick hand pits or assessing track trench walls. Able.to get shooting cracks from sled in all directions easily 10m away. Surface hoar sitting on a stiff slab about 10cm on top of decomposed rotten snow sun 1900m. Were in the alpine and found 20cm or wind blown snow on a firm layer with minimal hoar at 2300m. Alpine is quite wind hammered and snow has been deposited in east facing trees. Evidence of an older large east facing bowl at 2500ish m that had started and then stepped down once moving. Unable to see run out.
