Quick report
Toured into Tuckerman Ravine to pick some teaching locations for the weekend and view the terrain. I saw recent crown lines just under the cornice at the top of Left Gully and across the full width of Chute above the choke (see photos). Snow was streaming off ridgelines at 1130 on the right side of the bowl, streaming into Right Gully and flowing down the Icefall. Winds decreased significantly by 1230 with no more snow blowing off the ridges. I dug a snowpit on SE aspect at 4400ft (runout of Lobster Claw) and found a mix of 4F to 1F-hard windslabs in layers. ECT results were stubborn with no propagation. Faceting is occurring above and below the Dec 19 rain crust. HSN 140cm to the rain crust and frozen vegetation below. Several parties were booting up Right Gully at the time of my observations. I then did a quick tour to lower Hillmans and found a combination of frozen avy debris, pockets of noncohesive drifted snow, and very firm windboard. JSST is skiing magically.
