We left our sleds in the flats at the base of Link and began ascending up the south face of Link. At 6400’ we heard and felt two whoomphs right beneath us while we were skinning up a 32 degree pitch. After the second whoomph we stopped and dug a pit. We found ECTP11 with a propagating failure 60 centimeters deep on a stout crust about 9 cm thick. We decided to bail on our plan and were able to safely ski down. We set off on plan b and were able to safely ski some west/northwest trees and found fantastic snow with no signs of instability.
