Going to the Sun Road

Submitting a follow up report in regard to another observation submitted on 2/26. • Met with a fellow park ranger to discuss their recent snow survey in the Upper McDonald Valley. They provided some additional details and photos about the avalanche activity they observed during their three day patrol. • The Red Rock avalanche path on Mount Cannon's West Shoulder released two very large avalanches during their trip. They previously reported photos of the second slide. I will fill out an event tab here to document both releases separately. • The first slide failed some time before 330pm on 2/23. The second slide is suspected to have occurred later that same day, but was not observed until their return trip down valley on 2/25. • The pair of rangers also observed the aftermath of another very large avalanche on the north side of Mount Cannon in a path know as 54-1. They observed this slide around 4pm. This slide was not mentioned in their previous report, so I am submitted information here to further document the 2/23 cycle. • There are two subsequent paths (54-2 & 54-3) adjacent to this path a short distance further up the road. It seems likely that all three paths would have released during the AR, however they only have photographic evidence and recollection of seeing the first path full of debris.
