Another stroll in the mountains to improve our post-holing skills and check on conditions in southern Glacier National Park
- New snow ranged from 1 to 3 inches.
- At 6800, the new snow rests on a crust-facet-crust combo.
- Winds were calm today, however there was evidence of previous wind-drifted snow along the upper elevation ridgelines.
- This area has less snow than the Flathead, the Whitefish, and the Swan Range.
- No instability was observed, but we will track these crust layers when we get more snow.

Overcast skies with flurries of light snowfall. Winds were light. We could not see the surrounding peaks due to the cloudy conditions.
Snowpack
The crust beneath the new snow is strong (Pencil hard) and ranges from 1-2 inches thick. There are several inches of well-developed facets beneath this crust. The facets rest on a thicker 2-3 inch crust that is also Pencil hard.
